This mouse pad is very unique because it includes internal blue cold cathodes. They are very bright, so even under a lamp or sun light the blue cold cathodes illuminate the mouse pad. Also, when you turn the lights out this particular mouse pad looks quite nice. The blue cold cathodes are not a piercingly bright, but just give a nice glow.

The mousing surface itself is very smooth to the look, but is rough to the touch. It's not bumpy when you use your mouse at all, in-fact, it glides almost by itself. The reason for the very small ridges is for better traction for the newer optical mice or the older ball mice. You may look at the pictures and say, the mousing surface looks small, but really it's not that small. I have plenty of room for when I am gaming and plenty of room when I am doing photo editing. I love this mouse pad because the response is great due to the rigidness.
